HF: Housework Sucks
I’m undomestic.
And, I’m proud of it, baby!
But, I got an urge…
Someone please stop me!
Like I’m preggo and nesting.
Compulsion to clean?
Kid at MDO,
Plenty of blogs to read,
But I kept cleaning.
I cleaned for 5 hours,
And only finished downstairs.
Thought it would be quick.
Upstairs is toxic.
Toy rooms and media room
Quit while I’m ahead?
Rationalize:
And who goes up there but us?
Nobody that’s who!
Ahh! That’s me talking.
Was panicked there for a while!
Like possessed by Mom*!
Now we all know Mom’s my bff & I adore her, but my messy personality and her degree in Home Ec NEVER did well in the same house! So, for me to go nuts cleaning? Was scary even for me. I still don’t know what came over me. I cleaned non-stop from when I dropped SD off until I picked him up. And, I better have burned off the number of carbs in the shake I treated myself to after I finished.

I think cleaning definitely counts as exercise. Therefore, carbs must have burned.
April 10, 2008 at 9:54 pm
Yay! good for you. I had a bit of a bug myself today but petered out halfway through the house. 5 hours though. Girl, that is impressive.
April 10, 2008 at 9:54 pm
Downstairs and Upstairs?! That calls for TWO shakes in my book!
April 10, 2008 at 9:57 pm
You were bitten by the bug! I need that bug to bite me. . . soon. Laundry is piling up and I’ve forgotten how to work the dishwasher.
April 10, 2008 at 10:02 pm
Way to go! If you still have the cleaning bug, you are more than welcome to come down to my house and clean. I’ll pay you in shakes!!!
Happy Friday!
April 10, 2008 at 10:38 pm
who are you and what did you do with holly?????
(and while you’re at it, can you clean my house too?)
April 11, 2008 at 12:40 am
The nesting instinct kicks in! Woohoo!
April 11, 2008 at 1:01 am
i have had that happen in the past - very scary! thankfully it passed!
April 11, 2008 at 3:27 am
Love this haiku! I have a cleaning compulsion. I’m a constant tidier, but that’s mostly because CableDad is like a wrecking ball when he comes in or goes out of the house.
Tidying, yeah, I do that all the time. cleaning? I hate it. But when I get started…. 5 hours sounds about right. lol
April 11, 2008 at 4:47 am
Toy ROOMS? As in multiple? Are you CRAZY?????
Don’t answer that, I think it is obvious what the answer is…(:
The cleaning bug has bitten here, too; I think it is spring and the damned ants that eat all the crap we leave on the floor. If I’m gonna do the floors, I should dust, if I’m going to dust I should wash walls and …..
April 11, 2008 at 5:45 am
Sometimes cleaning IS relaxing and cathartic. I love to cook and clean some days because it helps me zone out.
Now, spring cleaning and organizing is best done with loud music and wine!
April 11, 2008 at 5:47 am
Hope it’s over now and you can enjoy the weekend! Very scary hope you can’t catch it through the computer
April 11, 2008 at 5:54 am
Sometimes I get in those cleaning fits too. But I’m always glad I did!
April 11, 2008 at 6:43 am
I love those cleaning binges. I need to go on one, but I think I’m just too lazy.
April 11, 2008 at 6:54 am
When are you due?
April 11, 2008 at 6:55 am
Thank goodness that’s not contagious. I much prefer my chaotic mess just the way it is!
April 11, 2008 at 7:10 am
lol - that is a lot of cleaning. my family hates when i get that bug, it never ends pretty.
April 11, 2008 at 7:15 am
I need a dose of that…or better yet, you want to come visit and tackle my house?
April 11, 2008 at 7:40 am
that bug bit me but, instead of cleaning…it just made me flat out sick!!
xoxo
April 11, 2008 at 8:00 am
Wait, you’re supposed to clean?
April 11, 2008 at 8:36 am
I love days like those. I love a clean house. Unfortunately, it never lasts long around here.
Way to go!
April 11, 2008 at 8:49 am
Next time can you swing by my house when you feel like cleaning?
April 11, 2008 at 9:29 am
How I wish that I
could be possessed as you were
for a day or two
since I’d like to be
rid of ‘messes’ and ‘clutter’
… but see where I am?
Hugs and blessings,
My Haiku Friday posts this week are:

Of Oddities and Change

I do my cleaning in spurts, too. But it hasn’t happened in a while and it so needs to.
And yes, your cleaning burned off all of those carbs. Didn’t you know that reward treats have no calories? I thought everyone knew that…
April 11, 2008 at 10:12 am
I’d be scared if I exhibited this behavior too. I’d rather get a root canal than do dishes.
I’ll give you plenty of bread, pasta, and brownies!
Wanna come over and clean
April 11, 2008 at 10:14 am
Eeew..Cleaning…Gross….
April 11, 2008 at 10:56 am
As I sit here reading, I realize I need to be cleaning. I guess I should go with the flow and clean up the flo’ . I can’t think of a rhyme, Oh well, I wasn’t trying to but then I noticed it so I tried. I wish I had your energy!
April 11, 2008 at 11:01 am
Here is my theory on that type of cleaning - now you don’t have to do it again for a looooong time.
April 11, 2008 at 12:02 pm
You go! Now that’s it all clean, you can come and clean our playroom seeing as I never get the urge.
April 11, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Pass a little of that compulsion my way–boy do I ever need it! Have a great weekend.
April 11, 2008 at 1:14 pm
Yup, I need to have everything clean too!
April 11, 2008 at 1:44 pm
That was awesome! I’m worn out thinking about cleaning but enjoyed the ‘ku.
April 11, 2008 at 1:48 pm
I have a little ‘to do’ widget on the desktop sidebar thingie. Nothing is checked off except [clear out Google Reader].
I’m pitiful.
April 11, 2008 at 3:34 pm
When that cleaning bug pops up around here, I step on it. Neat post!!
April 11, 2008 at 3:39 pm
I hate and love cleaning, generally cos I’m not the one that caused half the devastation. Then again, I watch “How Clean is Your House?” on BBC America and it COMPELS me to clean.
April 11, 2008 at 3:53 pm
When I feel like cleaning, I immediately check myself for fever.
April 11, 2008 at 5:58 pm
I have a rough go at the house work too. I did okay when I stayed home full time, but I’ve learned that the lived in look suits me just fine…as long as the dishes are done.
April 11, 2008 at 6:25 pm
Housework totally cancels milkshake calories.
April 11, 2008 at 7:57 pm
Ah, doesn’t it feel good to get something like that done? THAT deserve TWO shakes!
April 11, 2008 at 8:07 pm
If you’re still feeling that way, would you like to come over to my house? I’ll buy you two shakes afterwards.
April 11, 2008 at 9:26 pm
It must be in the air because I wiped a spot off on the wall in the front room and three hours later had every wall, baseboard, nook and cranny cleaned in three rooms. WTH?! We must be stopped. And your swap? Isn’t ready yet. But I plan on sending it out on Monday, express curiour, to make up for my tardiness. I was washing walls and cleaning. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it :o)
April 11, 2008 at 9:33 pm
Thank GOD for MDO!
April 12, 2008 at 2:25 am
Again… I didn’t leave a comment here yesterday? maybe it’s because I moved directly into the Chucky Cheese post.
I love these days– You know, when something actually gets accomplished and you’re not just running interference with the next mess.
I’m mopping floors right now. I have the whole family sequestered in the family room and I’m “mopping” (hee hee)
April 12, 2008 at 4:40 am
Definitely hormones! There’s no other explanation.
April 12, 2008 at 10:57 am
Should we smack you out of it?
April 12, 2008 at 3:52 pm
Are Catwoman’s hormones visiting you? or are you?
April 12, 2008 at 6:37 pm
I’ve got a little something for you on my blog.
April 12, 2008 at 7:33 pm
I get that kind of cleaning bug every blue moon, except when preggo. I just went through the whole nesting thing, last thing you want ot do preggo is scrub floor but you get that urge. Like other said I think you deserve 2 shakes!
April 12, 2008 at 9:45 pm
I’m one hour and 15 minutes early, but I’m going to fall asleep on the couch if I don’t just go to bed. So . . .
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SD! And congrats on another year of a job well done, AFF.
April 13, 2008 at 7:29 am
Hi, I came over from Mollydoll.
Undomestic and proud of it. I love it. I think we as women need to stand up together and be proud of these things that make us us… or maybe that’s just me talking and wanting to feel better about it!
Anyway, kudos to you!
April 13, 2008 at 8:11 am
Sometimes, oddly enough, for those of us who don’t clean much…it can be cathartic to do so. But, the sheer volume of cleaning then underlines why we don’t like to clean, which continues the pattern of procratination cleaning…and results in a massive cleaning weeks later.
Just my personal theory.
April 13, 2008 at 11:27 am
Well, you saw pictures of my upstairs, so I am sure you know that I am worse than you. I have never seen a messy picture of your house, in fact I always think yours looks so clean. Your day sounds like my week though, I am very impressed with us both!
April 13, 2008 at 8:16 pm
Thanks for your comment on my blog! Love your Haiku poem. I can totally relate! It is so surreal when I get on those cleaning kicks that I almost don’t recognize myself!
April 14, 2008 at 7:21 am
OMG. If that urge ever hits again, please just drive over to my house. I have never ever in the history of the world had that urge. What does it feel like?
April 14, 2008 at 8:32 am
Ahh yes, my Haiku wasnt a “real” Haiku, this is because Momma isnt one for following the rules.. this is also because Momma isnt one for getting her thoughts to come out in plain english, let alone poetically. So.. Momma will continue to post Haiku Friday and she’ll dress it all up to LOOK like a Haiku.. and one day, you will see.. it will be an actual Haiku..stay tuned
YOU (by the way) are quite entertaining yourself .. *adds you to her favorites* yay!
April 15, 2008 at 7:58 pm
Next time that happens, you’re always welcome to visit. Are you sure you’re not PG? The April Fool would be on you.
